Boulé will spend 5 hours each day working on the initial research stages of an evening-length piece called “The Monomyth.” The piece explores ideas around solitude and loneliness within the context of disco and religious culture. This exhibition serves as a performance of “open studio” time, with the potential for audience interaction and impromptu performances.
Michelle Boulé is a Brooklyn-based dance artist whose work involves a constant dialogue between the body, presence, and the physical expression of consciousness. Her choreography has been presented in NY at Danspace Project, River to River, American Realness, “Come Together: Surviving Sandy,” ISSUE Project Room, Movement Research Festival at Judson Church, Mount Tremper Arts Festival, and The Kitchen. She also collaborates with cellist Okkyung Lee in creating performances addressing the interplay between light. movement, and sound. Her work has toured to Dublin, Riga, Winnipeg, Philadelphia, and Chicago. She is most noted for her performance work with Miguel Gutierrez, Deborah Hay and John Jasperse. She received a 2010 New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” Award for her performance in Gutierrez’s “Last Meadow” and a 2015 “Bessie" nomination for her body of work with Gutierrez.
