Call for Exhibitions Interns
EFA Project Space is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary arts venue producing exhibitions, artist projects, and the SHIFT residency for artists who work in arts organizations. EFA Project Space seeks exhibition interns for the summer (June – August 2017).
The summer term kicks off with The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts’s 25th Anniversary Benefit in mid June, followed by the SHIFT residency exhibition (on view June 23 – July 22, 2017). The SHIFT Residency is the only residency that exists that supports the art practice of artists who work for arts organizations. This exhibition will be followed by preparations for orientation of the next cohort of SHIFT artists, who will be in residence in the EFA Project Space gallery in August.
Interns will also assist on preparations for the fall exhibitions: Near and Dear, curated by artist Carrie Moyer (September 14 – October 28, 2017), an intergenerational exhibition of artists invested in material culture; and Progeny, curated by Prem Krishnamurthy and David Levine, an exhibition exploring artistic inheritance by pairing a group of leading contemporary artists with their somewhat lesser-known artist-parents (November 9 – December 22, 2017).
Responsibilities include: assisting in the execution, publicity, and educational supplements; assisting with planning efforts for exhibitions during the upcoming season; researching and developing public programming concepts; exploring opportunities for institutional collaboration; seeking sponsorship and grant opportunities; assisting with coordination and execution of events; monitoring the gallery space; assisting with registrarial duties for exhibition production; and educating audience members on current exhibitions. For added educational benefit, interns occasionally take gallery trips and conduct study visits with member artists of the EFA Studio Program to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary art-making curatorial practice.
EFA Project Space seeks the candidates with the following interests, skills, background and availability:
- Currently enrolled students with an academic focus on contemporary art. Students seeking an internship for academic credit are strongly encouraged to apply because this is an unpaid internship.
- Energetic, self-directed workers who are adept at conducting research and multi-tasking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro, and Squarespace preferred; and an interest in website design, filmmaking, and video editing highly appreciated.
- Candidates should be able to set aside two days a week between Tuesday and Friday, 10:30 am – 6:00 pm, and are highly encouraged to assist with occasional evening events.
The deadline for applications is Sunday, May 14, 2017. Qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview in the third week of May. Please email a resume and brief cover letter conveying your interest in EFA Project Space and resume with subject heading "EFA Project Space Exhibition Intern" addressed to Meghana Karnik, Program Manager, at meghana@efanyc.org.
