About Derek Trumbo

Derek Trumbo is an incarcerated writer, playwright, and freelance columnist. His literary work has received multiple PEN Awards, and his "A North Korean Refugee's Kentucky Jail Stay'' recently appeared on the Vera Institute of Justice's "The Human Toll of Jail'' project. He writes a monthly column, "Never eat the candy on your pillow : A commonsense guide to prison" for Prism, an online news site. His featured one act play, "Mail" was performed at the Baruch Performing Arts Center with Academy Award Nominee Michael Shannon, and actor Michael Chernus as Ronald and Hershey.
